Gettin Figgy Wit It

I have been trying seasonal eating of late and found it a really good way to renew and refresh my love of tasty, healthy food. Right now the delightful fig is in season. There are oodles of them at my local fruit and veg stall so I bought a bundle, experimented a little and came up with this simple but very healthy and nutritious smoothie.

Figs are fabulously good for you.  They are rich in minerals including potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron and copper and are a good source of antioxidant Vitamins A, E and K that contribute to health and wellbeing. They can nourish the intestines and also act as a natural laxative so beware of eating too many at once!

I’ve added the almond milk for extra protein, and the flaxseed mix for an immune system boost as well as a shot of essential fatty acid which contributes to the maintenance of normal blood cholesterol levels.

The health bit aside, this smoothie tastes really earthy so worth trying just for the flavour.

So how about  ‘Gettin'  Figgy wit it’ while you can!

Ingredients

250ml Almond Milk
2 Fresh Figs
2 Dessertspoons Linwoods Milled Flaxseed, almonds, brazil nuts, walnuts & co- enzyme Q10 (available in most health food stores)

Very easy this one, just lop the tops of the figs and quarter. Put into your mixer with the almond milk and Flaxseed and blitz until blended. Add a little more milk if you want a runnier consistency. And that's it. There's enough for two so show some love and give the other glass to someone who looks like they need a boost.
Enjoy!
