Back to Basics

Never underestimated the benefits of going back to basics. The most inspiring pilates teachers I’ve met since I started pilates twenty years ago as an ex-dancer were those that not only inspired and motivated me, but also had a great empathy and humility for their work. It’s easy to forget nowadays when everything is instantly available at the press of a button that exercise and experience only improve over time, you can’t rush either.

Going back to basics is a great way to reconnect with yourself, to work on improving movement patterns and really ‘treat’ your body. Mindful movement is always more effective. A fact Joseph Pilates was passionate about, ‘ the acquirement and enjoyment of physical wellbeing, mental calm and spiritual peace are priceless to their possessors’ . Well said Mr.P I couldn’t agree more.

So I’m going back to basics with the back extension today- this is part of my latest traditional mat pilates workout on Youtube. Link below. This is both a fundamental and in my view vital exercise everyone should learn to do- we spend so much of our lives with heads bent forward over technology it’s important for our spines to move in the other direction too. Can you do it without sticking your chin out or in? Articulation is the name of the game and that’s what we’re looking for here ...Why not join me on YouTube to try the workout for yourself?

Have a wonderful pilates day !
